The village of Bugyi with 5,149 inhabitants and an area of 11,558 hectares was founded about 30 kilometres south of Budapest at the junction of the Ócsa–Kiskunlacháza and Taksony–Dabas–Kunpeszér roads. It covers an area of about 25 kilometres from north to the south, with a 2–8 km wide strip of land. Its size is explained by the fact that it covers the area of several medieval villages (Bugyi, Vány, Ráda, Ürbő) and a manor whose name is no longer known.
